Kura nodded in agreement. "Alright then." She paused for a moment to bring out her hand, turning it palm to sky and opening her fingers to lay it out, as if she was holding a tray, then in a flash of a light blue light, that seemed to form a solid shape from which it emanated from. Her soul gem was, soul gem'y, and would have been not distinguishable from another, if it didn't have a large angular european eagle that sat ontop of it, with its with its predominant form, anyone probably wouldn't have noticed the red paint Kura had added onto her own gem, why. In her own thoughts, it was cooler that way.
She held it out for a moment, like someone trying to get signal on a phone she span around slowly, moving it back and forth, she tried to see if anything felt different, depending on which way she was facing. She hummed and harr'ed over it. "Should, I get like a-" her train of thought was derailed by the answer, she moved it one way, and she got a strange feeling, like in the back of her throat, it was hard to describe, but it felt, magický in a way she felt was properly correct. She paused for a moment before speaking. "Well, that way it is then." she put the gem in a inside pocket. Then back around her neck, fidgeting with the little string to get it back into place, she wasn't all that sure why she summoned it, but it was one of those, she guessed.
She paused to look back over at the two 'wish granters' (Incubators) behind her and said. "Well, you coming with?" she said with a light smile.

The two Companions quietly watched as Kura followed their instructions and started to work her Soul Gem. Kyubey looked down from her shoulder, while Ichibey looked up from the ground. It was understandably not the easiest start, since there wasn't another Wishmaker around to show her how to do it. All she could go off of was spoken instructions.
While they could probably show her a vision of how it worked, it was perhaps deemed best to let her figure it out herself. It wasn't too hard to learn, after all, and the instinctive tendency to treat the Soul Gem like a phone in search of signal was not wrong. In less than a minute, the neophyte had caught on. She picked up a signal, the same one the Companions had known of for a while now, and took the lead. Kura paused briefly to ask them if they were coming or not. The question was rhetorical, because why wouldn't the little furry companion follow the magical girl into a fight, right?
That's how it always was on TV... Needless to say, the growth of that particular genre in the industry was unsurprisingly, part of some Incubator's machination decades ago.
"Of course," Kyubey nodded in that eternal calmness of his.
Ichibey was quick to confirm as he walked up to her side, prepared to follow her stride. "Lead the way, Kura."

Kura smiled and began to find the witch, or what ever it was she was picking up. Probably a witch, she was meant to hunt witches, that was her job now. So it made sense to her. Then again, this might have been another threat or something. She wondered if they gave off, a different kinda, feel to them. Well it was something she'd learn she guessed. She noticed something strange, a small feeling of excitement bubbled beneath the surface. She was exited, this was something new.
she paused to change directions after a moment, again scanning the area with her gem this time not summoning it, just pulling out out from her neck and moving back and forth to pick up on the signal. She wondered who she'd meet, if there was anyone else on a similar quest to her. She kept her eyes open and scanning around she paused to look at the two 'wish granters' behind her before talking while walking to what ever it was she'd be fighting. "So, is there a way to see if anyone else who's a magical girl is near by?" She asked out of curiosity mainly. But still felt that it might be important to know that.

The two Companions followed slowly behind their new contractee. Kyubey could tell, having so much experience with this, that despite her focus, Kura was certainly excited. They were very subtle signs, but good ones. Signs he had learned to watch over the course of thousands of years. Every little wish, every little desire, nudged human history in the direction of progress, if in a truly chaotic fashion. Those cave-magical-girls starting from scratch were interesting.
And here, Kura brought about recollections of many little Roman girls who had enjoyed watching one too many gladiatorial bouts and wished themselves into gladiatrices. Or perhaps the ones who became legionaries to honour their families. Truly fascinating times, those were.
Every era had its own unique qualities that made for an intriguing study once logged into the record.
Ichibey had no such recollections, however, and focused more on the present, quietly making sure that she was using the Soul Gem properly. Which was to say, he was just watching, seeing as the Soul Gem was very instinctive in its use. Still, Kura finally spoke up to inquire about a particular concern. One that was a logical outcropping of explaining the Soul Gem's detection capabilities.
The black and blue Companion nodded as she posed her question, and answered. "The Soul Gem is capable of detecting various frequencies of magical emanations and residue. You should be able to readily tell the difference between a Hex, its familiar, or other Wishmakers."
And now, here was the kicker, which they've been adding to their spiels over the past week, with the arrival of those unidentified ships in orbit, easily hidden from Earth's own space systems. "You might even discover a completely new magical entity. Who knows?"
What did they want? Right now, it was still hard to tell. But their arrival was sure to complicate matters even more in this city.

"Nein, it's still too soon to think about these 'school festivals'." Lorie flew low over the cityscape, following the Bureau-indicated flight path that updated in real-time to ensure she did not encounter any witnesses or security cameras. She was only partly talking to herself. Hofud was of course there, listening to her. "We should make a big impression as soon as we get to our first day of school."
It was annoying, that this world was advanced enough to possess phone cameras. Even moreso when a stealth spell simply cost too much mana to use on a basic patrol like this. Without going on foot, this was the best way she could go on patrol.
"And you don't mind the Bureau assigning you to this school, meine Herrin?" The Device chimed in from his sheath.
Lorie sighed, irritated. "We've been through worse these past three years. A commoner's school will be no different..." She put on a fake smile, as if rehearsing. "Think it an opportunity to build influence among the natives."
"Ja, of course, meine Herrin." You could almost hear the Device roll his eyes if he had any. "What an excellent thing to do, making the most of your situatio- Ach." Hofud suddenly beeped. "I am detecting what appears to be a minor Hex-type signal within this general area."
Magitek was woefully unreliable when it came to detecting these local monsters. Given the fuzziness of the signal, even the best Devices could only narrow the range down to a zone of five hectares. In Hofud's case, the zone was ten. Which meant she would have to do quite a bit of searching on foot to see it for herself.
Lorie muttered a complaint to no one in particular and came to an abrupt midair stop, before flashing down to the street just as quickly. She was still on the route, so there were no witnesses here just yet, but that could change very quickly.
The disowned princess slipped into an alley and started looking around... manually.

Kura nodded, a new magical thing huh, well if it was friendly, or bled, it wouldn't be a problem she guessed. She looked around and thought to ask how common that was, but just decided to focus on what it was she was picking up, it was kinda hard she thought that maybe she was overshooting it or that she was going around it, she paused to look around and again walk back and forth trying to gauge if there was a difference, she felt that in one she felt it a little different, she headed that way. Glancing around as she went, she noticed she'd gotten a little far of campus, she could still see it, but she wasn't a stones throw away anymore. She paused at a small alley and walked down it. "So, is finding new magical stuff common?" She asked kyubey, she felt like she was closer to it now.
She looked around and found it was getting stronger, she felt a little nervous, not in a bad way, she was excited to see what her opponent would look like, or act like, she was a magical girl, what did the witches look like, maybe they looked like, witch witches, familiars, like animals. Or maybe they'd be monsters or something. Her mind was filled with a notable excitement on the matter of it. Then she turned a alley, and it felt strong, like it was right ontop of her, or that. She paused and lowered her gem a bit, they where ontop of it. It felt stronger closer to the ground, she paused to look around and saw a industrial looking building, it was a small thing, probably only access for a lower area, or a cover for something, it must have been access to the space below them. She looked over at it, and then to the incubators, "Welp, I think its below us, you two coming with?" she asked them, looking around again to see if there was anyone else about.

The Companions followed along as Kura continued her search. They seemed eager with their body language, but at the same time, they didn't spoon-feed her with all the step-by-step details. Instead, they would give her the metaphorical space necessary to explore and learn the ins and outs of the Soul Gem's detection system by using it herself.
Juubey had already alerted them to the presence of one of those foreigners. Her distance was a few hundred metres away. And in a city, that might have seemed to be a lot. But given how fast her signal was moving in what was clearly a search pattern, it was only a matter of time until she got in close. While it was technically no big deal if she made contact with Kura, it was paramount that the existence of the Companions be kept from these foreigners.
So the question then, was how to make sure she did not spill the beans...
For now, however, Kura asked a question of Kyubey, and it was important to answer it in a way that was relevant to the currently developing situation. "We don't often encounter new magical entities. However, the circumstances in this city are quite strange. We've already explained the new things we've sufficiently studied. There are new stories going around, however. We aren't quite sure what they are just yet, but anomalous magical girls have been sighted, with abnormal magic signatures and talking weapons in place of Soul Gems."
"The most popular theory is that these are aliens, because of their weapons' high-tech aesthetic." If Ichibey could feel cynicism, he would have laughed.
"We're still trying to verify these claims," Kyubey continued, as Kura carried on with her search. They were closing in on the familiar, and its location was only a short walk away, past the alley and somewhere inside that maintenance shed, with its downward ladder. "But in case they are hostile, we cannot allow them to gain access to our wish-granting powers."
"Fortunately, we are capable of concealing our presence from those we do not wish to see us. If ever we meet one, just pretend we're not here. We can communicate with telepathy until she goes away."
The two Companions nodded at Kura's question of whether they were following her downstairs. "Of course. We wouldn't want to miss your first hunt."
It was then that the foreigner entered Kura's detection range. She was close. Not quite in visual range, especially all the buildings around, but there was no question that their new contractor would notice. These entities really did feel very different compared to Hexes, Wishmakers, and even Rumours. Perhaps that was the most alien thing about them.

There was really no telling how far the signal was. Lorie had half a mind to call in a trooper squad for additional help in finding the damn Hex, but she didn't have that authority. At best, she could hope that they would send some to her area after she had reported the signal. The Field Base hadn't said anything about that.
So at least until they informed her of reinforcements, she was on her own. Fortunately, Lorie already had some experience in dealing with Hexes... or at the very least, their familiars. "We just have to look for something unusual. Blatant violations of reality..."
"Like the 'picnic' we had at the Containment Facility?" Hofud asked, chuckling in a snide fashion.
The disowned heiress scowled as she continued down the alley. "Ugh... do not remind us of that Cretarian travesty." It was bad enough that she had performed so poorly in the opening moments of that bout. Sigi was a far better match for it. But the sheer humiliation of having to fight a damn walking sandwich and picnic implements. It was disgraceful. "The next time we see a familiar, we will eviscerate it."
"Of course, meine Herrin."
Lorie searched high, and low. Occasionally, she would peek around a corner that led to a dead end. Eventually, however, she got closer to the end. Just one more corner, and she would see if there was anything on the other end of this alley. Whatever it was, it had better be something worthwhile.

Kura nodded and took in a breath, she tapped her soul gem, the blue crystal container glowed as Kura tapped it twice, and she body was bathed in a blue light, she took a breath in, and floated up a little, feet raised a hands length of the floor, as her magica transformation began, the causal clothes she had on, began to be replaced parts of small steel strips that went over her body, over all grey steel strips turned into overlapping plate and under them a brown heavy tunic, she flexed as she transformed, Pauldrons formed over that, one gold and small, one large and silver cast, in that, resplendent glory of the old, a empire that was. She landed and stretched, and as she landed her roman leather brown skirt made small motion as the air caught it, though, it was more of a kilt in reality, with how thick the leather was, she stretched her arms, the amour over-layered with itself made a metal sliding noise, but let her be flexible, despite how much of her was covered in it. She paused for a moment and looked at her large center piece of her amour a large blue gem, kept within that same, vaguely eel jaw like golden logo, same that wore on her weapon, she grabbed her red cape that was behind her, slowly forming with small ashy blue traces of magic, that criss-crossed to stitch it from the air and magic alone, she grabbed it, and pulled it over herself, ripping it down the middle, and covering most of the front of her body in it; she thought it was more practical.
She paused for a moment and tapped her gem again, and in her hands, formed her helmet, she looked at it for a moment, it reminded her of a early 2nd century one, the golden metal bolted and fitted over it, gave it a recognizable origin, not also to add the large red thick plume, that seemed to be made out of a thick strands of a thing more similar to strands of metal than anything natural. She didn't mind, she had a big grin on her face looking at it, maybe she would have noticed the near by guest if she was less keen on fitting it on her head. It was comfortable, kept just away from her head with a small internal net and brace. She held out her hand, and found the heavy handle of her chain'axe. She felt, different, powerful, she was rather giddy for this all.
she stepped up-to the metal door, it was locked, she looked down, it was kept on with a chain and pad lock. She looked at it, then down at her axe, then at the padlock, then to the mail of her weapon, and smashed it flat-side down the lock and chain cracking like brittle glass as it made contact, and the door was open. She took a breath in and took a moment to steady herself; her hands where shaking. Not that she was scared, it was a giddy excitement.

"The aesthetic is certainly appropriate for your wish," Ichibey nodded. He had of course seen the records of said wish, as well as the historical context behind it. Suffice it to say, it was a quick trip through the Datamind to learn everything that Kyubey had witnessed about the era and its warriors.
Kura's enthusiasm was palpable, her face worth a thousand words as she assessed herself, the chain axe, the lock, and then made quick work of it.
"By now, you should be able to ascertain whether the signal is from a Hex or familiar," Kyubey started. "The pressure of the former is significantly greater than the latter, and in this city, they're much stronger than usual." Some Wishmakers have over the past few years, begun thinking of this city in terms of a high-level dungeon in a game. Which, all things considered, wasn't wrong.
The familiar down this route was at least manageable. There would be no grief seed gained from it, but at least it wasn't a bad first step. The different rules in this city meant that the approach had to be different. Magical girls were now more of a long-term investment, rather than a quick buck, as humans would put it.
So long as that meddling Doppel System was in place, they would not be able to receive any payouts. Not when the grief always ended up feeding a Doppel instead of a Witch.
He stared at the now-open door. "Judging from your confidence, I'm presuming you already know which type it is. Shall we begin?"
She had best go in now, before the intruder arrived...

"Meine Herrin, I am detecting a magical burst at the end of this alley," Hofud spoke up.
Lorie smirked. Finally, something more concrete! Now she would get the opportunity to reclaim her honour! Or at least, her pride. Despite her comparatively embarrassing performance, Sigi had given credit to her suzerain in her report. Which was a good way of preserving her honour, but that personal pride was still hurt. "Niemals..." she muttered. "Never again, Hofud. Now is our chance."
With a quick wave, she cast an acceleration spell on her legs so she could run faster. She would be around that last corner in no time.
"At the end of this alley, right?" Lorie dashed across the concrete pavement. Anyone seeing her would make some ninja running jokes, but fortunately, nobody was there to witness this potential embarassment.
"That is correct, meine Herrin. Be advised, there appears to be an industrial structure there."
"So the Hex-type entity should be in there, ja?" Lorie prepared to round the final corner.
"Positiv. At least, based on the latest burst." The Device was silent for a moment, before projecting a few lines of text into view. "Based on the statistics, however, there is a non-significant chance that this burst is an indigenous mage, rather than the Hex-type entity itself."
Lorie rolled her eyes. "We suppose that is acceptable too. They are the only ones who can actually find these creatures without line of sight." She stopped just shy of the alley exit. There, standing in front of an open door, was an armoured teenager. Definitely older than her. The armour itself was quite impressive, visually speaking.
None of the nonsense that Midchildans called Barrier Jackets.
Armour was armour. And Lorie definitely had more in common with her than she did a Midchildan, at least as far as attire went.
In which case, at least for someone like her, the next step was plain and simple.
Get her attention.
Lorie planted the tip of her sword in the pavement and raised her right hand in greeting. "Heil ok sæl!"
Probably not the best choice of language, Ancient Belkan and all, but hopefully gestures like a raised hand to show an unarmed state were universally recognised.

She got a feeling it wasn't a witch, so, by deduction, familiar she guessed she was right, she'd have further addressed this to her, furry friends, she wanted to see who that was who had just called out to her, in; what ever language that was. She went to turn her head, but knew her helmets cheek guards would have blocked her vision so she had to move more of her torso than she thought she'd have needed too, which was easier than she'd have expected. It was, rather flexible, she turned to face her fully. 'Heil ok sæl!' It wasn't something she recognized fully, Heil, though. 'Ave' She turned to face her too look at her, and, what met her was confusing her more. What ever language they spoke, she didn't know it, and how they where dressed, gave her no clues.
Kura paused, well, a normal person would have just said back. 'Hello.' But, Kura was never normal and she had a type of flare about her, this was a first impression of her with this, other person, she might as well return the favor of speaking some, language that wasn't Japanese. "Ave, amice vel foe?" She brought her hand up to wave, keeping it below her shoulder, it was move of the wave you'd have given someone in a car who stopped for you, Kura would have kept with the historical bit. But the Latin was enough.
Kura did take a step towards her though, keeping her weapon pointed at the ground, axe head facing the floor, she didn't want to seem threatening, but also, if they came for her, she'd be ready ish. She hoped. But they didn't seem all that threatening, they announced themselves, so it was a good guess that they'd be friendly. "Loquerisne latine?" she added on, for good measure. But she still kept a good posture, first impressions and all.

The two watched silently as the anomaly appeared. She wasn't anomalous in the sense that they didn't know where she came from. At the very least, they understood that she had come down from one of the warships that were currently parked in Earth's orbit, using reasonably advanced technology to hide from human governments... But insufficient to hide from the Continuum.
They knew that this fleet had broken out from this inscrutable singularity somewhere in the vicinity of Sirius, and that they had recently made a massive landing operation here, again covert to the eyes of humans' governments. But again, not to the Kyu.
However, that was all they knew so far. There had been scant few interactions with these individuals, and all they could tell was, be it the low-powered soldiers, or the more powerful individuals, they were intent on destroying Hexes.
And that was contrary to the Continuum's plan.
<<That sounds like a variant of Norse,>> Kyubey projected into Kura's mind, commenting on the words the foreigner spoke. It wasn't exactly different from what they were doing earlier, but the weight of the communication was such that it could not be mistaken for something heard. In a way, he was whispering. <<Although there are differences in how she speaks it.>>
<<Latin in some way is an appropriate response,>> Ichibey noted. <<We will have your back in case she tries anything strange, Kura. Just remember, the two of us are not here.>>
That was just one more thing the Continuum was sure of. Due to their propensity to only allow contractees and potential contractees to see them, then these foreigners simply had no idea of their existence. For the sake of the program, it was best to keep things that way. After all... given their militaristic approach in destroying Hexes, it was clear that they were enemies of the program. And, at least appearing to be some form of human, it was likely they had pesky emotions that would make them disagreeable to the idea of staving off universal heat death by sacrificing a few magical girls.
Well... few, on the grand scale of things.

Oh, but of course she had to be fluent in some other language! Well it was only expected from trying to open the channel with a Belkan greeting. Still, it worked well enough, and the oddly appropriate salute looked like it got the message through. It looked like enough of a reflection, for one.
Hofud, for all it was worth, was quick to access the Bureau's database on what languages were commonly spoken on this planet. But he'd better make it quick, because it was fast looking like Lorie was going to embarrass herself with having to be the first to speak in what was presumably the common tongue of the region.
She at least trained in Japanese and English. This one that was being used, however, she hadn't the slightest clue.
Lorie cleared her throat and decided that screw it, she would be the first to give. Clearly not understanding what was said, she decided to start with the most common intentions of such meetings. "We come in peace."
It was about that time that Hofud finally spoke up after crosschecking with the Bureau's database. The sword's gold and blue decorated ricasso would brighten and dim in tune with his speech. "Meine Herrin, she speaks in a dead language known as Latin. She has just requested an IFF, and also wishes to know if you can speak this tongue."
Lorie held back a sigh and the urge to facepalm as she looked down at her Device. Yes, of course. That would have been very helpful two seconds ago. Before she decided to take the conversation in a new if related direction.
"Danke. We will keep this in mind moving on." She turned her gaze back at the native. "We unfortunately do not speak Latin, but you can count us as a friend."
Lorie briefly looked past this older girl and at the open door to the industrial structure.
"If you are after the beast as well, then we share a common goal." She had best put on her best show. There was no question that the Bureau was listening.

Kura nodded it was good to have a ally she guessed, many hands made easy work and humans where pack hunters by nature; "Yeah, I'm hunting the beast-" she said and looked back over at the door, she'd broken open, and set her axe down like a stick / cane and leaned on it, taking a moment to think and tap her feet while doing so, just putting the energy somewhere while she tried to think up a plan of action now she had a friend in the matter, well, not friend per-say, alley in the up coming fight.
"-Right, so-" she said picking up her weapon and kinda made a hap-hazard plan, "We both take a sides of it maybe?" she said looking over at her with a somewhat kinda look of just guess work, it made sense and a part of her just kinda told her to just get a really long stick with a sharp part and spear the 'beast' or 'familiar' she kinda hoped it was. "Well never the less, we aught to kill it." she said turning around and standing int the door way of the access area, she fixed her helmet a bit and ran a finger through her hair to push it into her helmet to keep it out of her eyes, she looked down into the breach and took in a breath, she muttered something to herself, "Welp, into the breach then." and she began to walk down into the access stair-well, she paused to gesture for her guest and the incubator, and down into, what ever she'd find.
