ROLEPLAYING, XP, THREADS, AND REWARDS
When you meet new friends and it all works out
When you meet new friends and it all works out
This section covers roleplaying basics, as well as how one's character progresses by doing so throughout the game. We'll also later see at how that progression will look, as well as what kinds of threads are available to you, and how they can reward your roleplaying.
ROLEPLAYING BASICS
*There are no actual characters here named Mumi or Kyaku

So how does one play this game exactly anyway? Before we move on to the more detailed aspects of putting your character together and so on, we start with this very simple question. And the simple answer is, you write. You write stories involving your character, either by yourself (which may or may not be that much fun), or with at least one collaborator.
When writing with others, you take turns posting. This allows other players' characters to interact with yours in a sequence.
For example, Mami up there might write about how her character buys an ice cream for Kyouko's character, and then posts it.
Kyouko then writes about her character's response to this action, and posts that in response.
Then, either Mami replies again, or additional players involved in the thread take their turns posting, before going back to Mami. And so on.
MINIMUM WORD COUNT REQUIREMENT
The smallest possible chunk of your character's story is a single roleplaying post. Of which, the minimum number of words is 200. You can make them as long as you want, but the absolute minimum is 200 words. And as you write posts of this minimum length, you get rewards. The word counter at the bottom right of your posting space can help you count.
Mind you, this only applies to roleplaying words! Out of character words, and words from the Combat System don't count!

REWARDS ARE PER POST, NOT FOR WORD COUNT
Now, it's important to note that the rewards are based on how many posts you make, as well as the type of thread you're in, rather than how many words you put into each post!
Again, depending on the type of thread, each post you make is worth a FLAT value of XP and other rewards. You can write as much as you want in a single post, but once you pass that minimum amount of 200, there is no difference in how much that post is worth for your character's development!

SOLO TYPE THREADS
The only exception to this general rule is a SOLO thread, where 10 words is worth 1 XP, but those are the least profitable.
Why? Because we want to encourage you to roleplay with others. We're not just here to write fanfiction. We're here to write collaborative fanfiction! We want our characters to interact with each other!
Now, if you don't mind writing 1000 words for the same amount of rewards as 200, because you just really enjoy writing, well... hats off to you. But for the sake of making things fair for other players who might not be as... capable, then this rule is in place.

ANTI-FILLER RATIONALE
Aside from that, this ruling is also a safety measure to prevent people from getting stronger from writing filler.
This administration has seen people do some pretty insane things on other sites that pay rewards for word count.
We don't mean someone who just really enjoys writing, and manages to knock out a few thousand words as a result because of a very well-written and passionate post. A lot of decent folks and great roleplayers we know just happen to write that way.
We mean someone who somehow manages to knock out several thousand words by describing a cloud. Not sneaking into a cloud converted into a fortress, knocking out some guards to snag treasure or save a friend. Not casting a spell to make it rain to help a poor village with its drought problem. It was literally, describing a cloud. If that's not filler, we don't know what is!

GROUP WORD COUNT BONUS
That isn't to say there's nothing for people who just happen to enjoy writing a lot of words. We have bonuses in place for people who write a lot in collaboration!
Whether this is a bunch of short posts, or a few long posts, so long as you're roleplaying with others, there's something in it for you.
Just be aware that there exists a form of unspoken etiquette where players in the same thread try to match their friends with similar word counts.
After all, how would you feel if you wrote a thousand words but your friend only ends up writing 200? Or on the flip side, how would you feel if your friend wrote 1000 words? Wouldn't you feel a personal pressure to try to keep up?
Not everybody feels this way of course, but we're just throwing this out there to let you know that these types of people do exist! So please keep them in mind!

With all these general principles in place, let's move on to something more specific.
