A major alliance of Wishmakers working in cooperation with the Incubators, who now identify themselves as the "Companions". Indeed, it is perhaps the largest organisation of its kind in the Kanto Region. Originally a rag-tag team of Puella Magi based out of a boarding house in Kamihama West, circumstances and actions in the recent past have led to their repeated clashes with the enigmatic "terrorist organisation" calling itself the Wings of Magius.
This escalating conflict culminated in a great battle that united several disparate Puella Magi teams against the Wings' superior numbers and infrastructure. The climax of this battle saw the destruction of Control Station FLÜGEL, a heavily fortified Wings of Magius installation. Control Station FLÜGEL housed a device created by the powers of the three Neo Magius, which surrounded Kamihama City in a barrier that deactivated any Incubators that strayed inside, leaving them unable to intervene with the events going on inside the city.
With the barrier gone, and the Wings forced to regroup after this major loss, Kyubey and his ilk were now able to enter the city.
They immediately got to work integrating themselves into the budding Kamihama Magia Union, structuring things so that each member would be able to work closely with at least a single Companion. Under the direction of Kyubey and a number of his associates, the Companions moved to influence the Union to focus on destroying the Wings of Magius once and for all. Being experienced with the intricacies of dealing with humans, however, the Companions avoided tightening their grip, preferring to operate by suggestion and discussion, albeit working more closely with the Puella Magi in this organisation. This was to maintain the belief that they were acting out of their own volition.
Not long after the Battle of FLÜGEL, the Companions began to recruit young boys to bolster the Union's ranks, officially dubbing them "Warlocks", although most Wishmakers just call them "Magical Boys" out of convenience. Primarily, their purpose is to serve as additional forces to hasten the destruction of the Wings of Magius. But they would become useful even sooner than that, as they have proven invaluable in defeating a third category of malignant entity that has suddenly arisen in Kamihama City, the Daemons.
In recent days, rumours have been spreading about either "aliens" or "magical soldiers" led by "abnormal magical girls and boys", who integrate magic with technology, don't rely on Soul Gems or Seeds, and bear the curious mark of a hammered star. The Companions appear to be divided on this matter. Some suggest that their partners meet with these so-called abnormals to learn more about them. Others express suspicion and claim these people are somehow connected to the Wings of Magius. Others would rather their partner spy on the abnormals instead of talking to or hiding from them.
Whatever the case, things have gotten more interesting now, and life in the Union is about to change.
A typical KMU Team Composition, before Warlocks were a thing.
Today, the Kamihama Magia Union operates just like a school club, in contrast to the cult-like protocols and rhetoric used by the Wings of Magius, or Hex Hammer's military professionalism. The image they project is somewhat more relaxed than the fragmented teams of old, perhaps because strength in numbers and community brings a comfort even when faced against such great odds. There is an official registry, however, overseen by the Membership Committee and submitted to the eyes of the Companions, who are now a constant presence in Union Havens. New members are given a quick briefing of all the perks they can expect upon joining.
Needless to say, at its foundation, the Union was an alliance of multiple Puella Magi teams. As such, its authority is not really centralised, and is bound more by a common pact and commitments. The Union is divided into a number of Teams, named after the Haven in which they live. Each team is led by a Steward, who either owns the Haven or has significant influence over its owner. This gives them the power to allow a new member to join, or veto a vote they find undesirable for the Haven. Each Haven then is generally independent, but coordinates with other Union Havens concerning matters greater than just patrolling their won territory. An exception to this is that any encounters with the Wings of Magius must be reported to the Security Committee, no matter how minor.
Each Steward is expected to take up at least one responsibility affecting the Union at large, by joining one of several Union Committees established by the Stewards Council. This allows them to both see the bigger picture, and serve the Union directly, giving them a perspective greater than just ensuring the survival of their Team. The Council itself is generally not considered a centralised governing body, so much as it is a congregation where all Stewards can meet, coordinate, and vote on Union-wide commitments. Commitments that pass vote and are enacted typically don't affect daily life all too much, at least for the ones that are often honoured. After all, who wouldn't want a vending machine in their Havens, stocked by the Union to provide goodies? Major commitments, such as cooperating to investigate and take down a Rumour that overlaps the territories of two or more Havens, don't enter force too often, and so aren't considered much of a burden.
The Companions, personally led by Kyubey, serve as a major unifying force, facilitating instant communications between Teams and providing advice and suggestions that are in line with their agenda. But other than a heightened awareness of how the Wings of Magius must be defeated once and for all, the Union's focus is to recruit and provide a loving community for any new Wishmakers they might meet.
Majority of its members are Puella Magi, but the number of Warlocks is rising as more young boys make wishes and meet Union members.
