Shang-rid
Status: Administered
TSAB Index: 9
Shang-rid is the ninth administered world within the TSAB. Though, unlike most administered worlds, Shang-rid remains mostly autonomous only upholding TSAB’s laws as a gesture of good faith after a fifteen year war costing both sides many lives and resources. However thanks to the extended war. The cybernetics company now turned mega corporation YuWan, rose not only above many other corporations that were either bought out or outright destroyed from the war, but became the true power within Shang-rid.
Politics
Originally a Democratic Republic, Shang-rid once held the freedoms of its people in high regard and still holds onto its political roots on paper under Xiao Zedong of SAP. Though in truth the planet is a Corporatocracy directly under the control of YuWan with the Presidency acting as a buffer between them and the populace.
Excluding the TSAB Embassy, all day to day activities and governmental responsibilities are handled by YuWan subsidiaries. From policing to healthcare all necessary amenities are owned and operated by YuWan. However, all essential services are free for citizens excluding TSAB affiliates. While they will still be served and treated, affiliates are expected to foot the bill barring a few exceptions to the rule such as ambassadors or military personnel.
Noteworthy Political Parties
Party Name: SAP (Shang-rid Administration Party)
Party Leader: Xiao Zedong
SAP, as the name suggests, is a TSAB sympathizer party that first in foremost wants to fully adopt into the Bureau removing the restrictions that come with their current tenuous relationship. Out of all of the parties, they are the most liberal and open minded which often resonates with the younger and less fortunate members of Shang-rid society. In reality, they only pretend to get along with TSAB and just want the benefits with none of the negatives that come with the administration.
Party Name: SFP (Shang-rid National Party)
Party Leader: Long Wuying
Shangrids' first is the cry you will hear from both its leader and party members. The SFP is a xenophobic nationalist party that wants nothing to do with TSAB or anyone really. Their goal is self reliance and inward focus. Unlike the SAP they are militarist close minded and appeal to many of the older generation or the old guard of the military who feel that Shang-rid is a shell of its former self.
Party Name: TR (Techno Revolutionist)
Party Leader: Song Gengxin
Probably the most controversial main political party, but certainly popular with every demographic are the Revolutionists it is not uncommon to see many of their members fully sporting their cybernetics to the open air. Like the Nationalists they are not fond of TSAB, but more so for their ban on certain cybernetics. To a revolutionist, they think that TSAB is stopping the next form of human evolution and want to remove the Bureau or force them to accept their wishes to ascend into the next stage of humanity.
Party Name: YuWan Party
Party Leader: Ren Jia
An odd party that believes that they should get rid of the current government in fully place their lives in the hands of YuWan and other corporations. Surprisingly this party is not back by YuWan and is in fact seen as a joke by many of the board members. However, many Shangrids feel similar as they have been institutionalized at birth.
Economy
Technology, mainly cybernetics, medicine, and AI are the main focus of Shang-rid as that is YuWan’s specialty. This does not mean that Shang-rid does not also produce other things such as produce and all kinds of other technology, so much so that they are presently trying their utmost to outdo Caledfwlch in the field of robotics. On the other hand their population growth and mostly mountainous terrain forces Shang-rid to rely heavily on food imports in exchange for their technology and minerals leaving the planet wholly dependent on TSAB for its food.
Unique Resource
Bin Tie, Bin Steel, or Mithril outside of Shang-rid is a near weightless silvery bluish metal that is stronger than any currently known metal within the Administration. However, due to its weight, it is often used for only cutting and piercing weapons and is often touted as the main reason Shang-rid was able to fight off TSAB for as long as they did. Currently, Bin Tie is mostly used as a conductor as it can withstand extremely high temperatures while retaining its conductive slightly above that of silver.
Outside of more practical uses, Bin Tie is widely used for jewelry with many Shangrids outright refusing engagement or marriage offers if the rings are not made of Bin Tie. Many Shangrids often dye or change their hair colour to match the same silvery blue of Bin Tie with many families seeing a child with natural blueish silvery hair as a good omen and a sign that the child will be blessed with success.
Notable Companies
Company: YuWan
Owner: Feng Mu
Formerly a medical cybernetics manufacturer, YuWan's rise to the undisputed power of Shang-rid was built off of weapons and the sacrifices of both Shang-rid and TSAB. After the war, YuWan gained unfathomably wealth off of the war. Switching back to medicine and redevelopment, YuWan stamped their name not only on the planet but in the hearts and minds of the people who desperately needed help. Cementing their rule they called in all of the debt accumulated by the government forcing the leaders to transfer over power by threat of bankruptcy and societal collapse.
Presently YuWan either owns or has its hands in everything from media to food production. It would be impossible to walk through Xan or any major population center without seeing a YuWan product or advertisement.
Company: Bin Tin'Tin Mining:Co
Ceo: Unknown
The almost fully autonomous mining company known as Bin Tin'Tin or Tin'Tin is the solely licensed extractor of Bin Tie in all of Shang-rid. Not much is known about its operation save for rumors and speculations that lead to either dead ends or disappearances as the process and names behind the company are Shang-rid's greatest secret.
Company: Jiu Robotics
Ceo: Feng Bao
Born out of a desire to supersede Caledfwlch in the field of robotics, Feng Mu appointed his cousin to the task of overseeing the production of combat droids that were either better or just as effective, but more cost effective. Yet despite the unlimited resources and promotion, YuWan still has not been able to meet its goal. After continued defeats, all Caledwlch robots have been banned and replaced with their Jiu counterparts.
Military
Presently Shang-rid’s military is integrated into TSAB with all military bases on the planet having both TSAB and Shang-rid military personnel working alongside one another. Despite this, there are private military and security groups within Shang-rid mostly acting as guards for those affiliated with YuWan or wealthy individuals.
Chrome Busters
Usually referred to as CB by the populace, the Chrome Busters is a specialized police unit specially formed to deal with highly augmented criminals despite often just being as augmented or more so than the ones they hunt.
The Stab Ring
In between the reconstruction of Shang-rid's infrastructure, TSAB and the Shang-rid government collaborated on an orbital ring known as the Shang-rid Time Administrative Bureau Ring. The Ring's purpose was to serve both as a naval and trade facility; housing both shipyards and docking for both trade and military use.
While the orbital ring's purpose was and still is a success to this day offering both unending foodstuffs via orbital elevators to the Shang-rid population. The strong TSAB presence over the planet stirs distrust within many Shangrids. Often referred to as The Collar, many see the ring as nothing more than a way to control them through the threat of starvation.
Though the ring and TSAB are not the only ones who receive the population's ire but other Shangrids as well. Often referred to as Ringborn, the generations Shangrid people who work and live within the Stab Ring are often looked down upon by other Shangrids for assimilating with TSAB culture. While still uncommon some Ringborn do either change their name or give their children's names that are not common to their ancestry. While this may hamper their ability to fit in planeside many Ringborn live and die within the Stab Ring as it holds all the amenities anyone could need to live comfortably.
Culture & Society
For all its history of conflict and new authoritarian regime. Life within the Shang-rid is relatively peaceful and comfortable for the average citizen. The needs of the state may and often supersede those of the individual, but most Shangrids go through their daily lives without trouble, and in return, the state provides for all of their necessities. The Shangrid people are hardworking, goal driven, and very family orientated. So much so that there are no limits to the size of one's family instead it is incentivized with numerous grants available for those who do have many children. Veneration of one’s family, obedience to one's parents, and respect for the elderly are so deeply ingrained into their society that the first day of every month is considered a national family holiday with memorial services dedicated to honoring the sacrifices of one's ancestors.
Education
Education is completely free for every citizen of Shang-rid from 5 to 16. Though unlike other systems there is a strong emphasis on capitalist indoctrination in the form of either promotional material or donations. State-sponsored elementary and secondary schools provide practically the same quality of education as private education centers. In addition, YuWan often inducts promising youths into certain centers based on their aptitude into their own or other private separate educational system at their own expense. Most of these are dedicated to vocational and technical training and generally allow more affluent families to reward exceptional students with greater educational opportunities. However, they must teach the same curriculum as state-sponsored schools and must allow admission for less financially stable students. Though while private institutions must allow any citizen to enroll. The class disparity often led to bullying and discrimination from both the students and faculty preventing many from achieving their full potential.
Secondary education is technically not free, many citizens are either already signed on or steered in a certain field by YuWan or inducted into a military program under TSAB. It is rare for a citizen to lack any secondary education, but not impossible. Many less scholarly citizens are often affiliated with criminal elements or simply seen as a net loss for YuWan.
Trans-Humanism
Due to TSAB’s laws against Artificial Mages and Combat Cyborgs, many of those with combat cybernetics from the past conflict with TSAB have either been driven underground or grandfathered into YuWan’s private security firm. Though it is unlikely that anyone from such an era remains. It is more likely that all of the current Combat Cyborgs are post-war.
Yet despite the new laws set in place many citizens still implant themselves with commercial cybernetics for work or as a fashion statement with more than seventy percent of Shangrids have some form of an implant according to a YuWan poll. Be that as it may, there are strict laws on what kinds of cybernetics or bio enhancements the average citizen can acquire alongside of when and where. Only adults past the age of 23 are allowed to acquire certain implants based on their status and employment. If a job requires certain implants to properly fulfill their work agreement then any citizen below the age of 23 is unable to apply. Implants are broken up into grades and then further separated by where and what the implant does.
Example:
Hair implants would be considered a Grade: C (Commercial)
Then a Class: E (External)
Finally, if the hair only changes colour and or styles itself it would be a Denom: C (Cosmetic).
Now let us take a similar hair implant and show what happens when it's more than just a fashion statement.
Nano Fiber Optic Hair, Grade: E (Espionage)
Then a Class: U (Universal)
Has both the same properties as the normal hair implant, but allows for neural network connection Denom: S (Security)
Requirements: Military, Police or Cyber Security,
Any citizen outside of these fields caught with such an implant would immediately have CB called on them as all implants are removed before you can quit or be fired.
Now lets go crazy and show what only a criminal or a black ops member would have.
Bin Tie cybernetic arm Grade: P (Private)
Class: R (Replacement)
Concealed high frequency Bin Tie blade, EMP shielding, and DS Graphene Myomer Denom: M (Militaryyyyyyyyy ILLEGAL IMPLANT DETECTED!!!!!) aka you have not only the Shang-rid authorities after you but TSAB.
